reasons to love red

This past weekend, I was fortunate enough to attend some lovely gatherings that required a bit of the fancy. Nothing too fancy, but just that little bit of extra effort which to me is a sure sign of good time just around the corner. When it comes to fashion, I have always been a gal who leans toward practical purchases (some near and dears may laugh at that notion). Honestly though, if I’m going to invest my hard earned and well loved dollars into a fabulous piece to wear, I want to be sure it’s well worth it and I’m going to:

A) Wear it often and feel comfortable in it

B) Dream, fantasize, dare I say lust for if I do not have it

C) Instantly style multiple outfits from my closet to pair with it (often to the confusion of the sales associate: ‘why has she gone silent?’)

The Janice wedge from Louboutin hit me just so. Before you either scoff at the price or perhaps nod your head and think I purchased wisely (disclaimer – I did have a  gift card) I must fill you in on the effect this shoe has on women. Over the weekend I had 6 different women approach me about this shoe. They were complete strangers of all ages, income levels and tastes and each was compelled to stop me on the street and share their opinions on color, wedge height, and most importantly the comfort level. I assured my fellow avoidees of the platform stiletto that these beauties were indeed the shoe they’ve been looking for; playful, versatile,  comfortable and…cherry red.  With ladies from their early 20′s to their 60′s all responding with the thumbs up, I can rest assured I’ve hit on something good..What do you think, are you with me on this?

color inspiration on the mind…

I’ve been lusting over the colors in this Frida inspired shoot. I’ve been thinking about new color combinations that I want to incorporate into my life – whether it be through my home, my wardrobe or some new inspired ideas for wrapping and packaging. Acidic, tart colors mixed with washy, dusty hues: this is a zone that I love to explore. What are some of your favorite color combos? Chartreuse and grey? Coral and brown? Periwinkle and hunter green? Do tell, and see below for some Monday color inspiration:

blending in…

So, we’ve been taking our time playing with ideas to decorate the studio and wallpaper has been on my mind.  Enter…wallpaper dresses. These make for a lovely set of photos don’t you think?  The dresses are constructed of paper…which reminds me of a recent show I saw in San Francisco from the extraordinary Isabella de Borchgrave. More on that, later.

My apologies, as I cannot remember for the life of me where I found these! I think an L’Officiel. Does anyone know?

suno resort…

How about a little vacation inspiration? After the hard winter months in NY, Suno’s head designer, Erin Beatty, was inspired to make a collection based around the idea of just having a good time in the sunshine. The result is her collection of playful patterns that pull inspiration from the beautiful beaches of Hawaii. Anyone else ready for vacation now?

kenzo + paolo, c. 2005

Take a look at these shots for some deep-spring inspiration. Paolo Roversi and Kenzo’s collaboration from 2005 is feeling quite au-currant, wouldn’t you say? Deep, dreamy blues and pattern play that stands the test of time, hmm?

cinq 5

How about falling in love with this cute little Japanese store with a European twist? Located in the heart of Harajuku, Cinq 5‘s buyers travel through Europe hand picking items for their adorable shop. Inspired by Nordic folk art and pastoral French details, they add their own touch by making basket weave rugs and accessories. Love this Japanese take of a 19th C bucolic European outing. The world is full of inspiration, isn’t it?

feeling it: neutrals

My favorite way to bring some new life to neutrals is by bringing in some texture and mix of materials. The below pieces take the soft palette away from being too precious, don’t you think? Do you have a fave?

1.  via Vanessa Jackman, 2. M.Patmos chunky knit top, 3. Annie Costello Brown necklace, 4. burlap vases, 5. natural rope skinny belt, 6. Miu Miu raffia tote, 7. Eugenia Kim fedora,  8. Rag and Bone wedges, 9. Rodarte for Opening Ceremony pleated skirt

a novel clutch

While up in SF last week, I was lucky enough to spy some of French designer Olympia Le-Tan‘s hand stitched novel clutches in person. Le-Tan, the  former design studio assistant at Chanel and frequent contributer to Purple and Jalouse, really has something special going on here. Taken from covers of her favorite first edition books, she painstakingly hand stitches each clutch, floral lining and all. The thing is, they really do feel precious in a non-sentimental kind of way – witty, charming, and just like an old book, you get the feeling they’ve traveled a long & personal journey to make it into your own little hands.
