some of the most beautiful things on earth…

I am so loving these rugs by London based rug designer, Luke Irwin.  Each is crafted using traditional hand-knotting methods in the foothills of the Himalayas. Irwin’s rugs are meant to transform your living space and bring a sense of the old world back without sacrificing the wear and tear of an antique rug. Now that’s something a modern day girl loves to hear, right?

A little rug haiku:

“A good rug can be the cornerstone or foundation on which all the disparate elements and personality within a room are bound together”

bellocq tea atelier

You may have seen these fab teas either here or here, but as an avid tea drinker/lover/obsessive, I couldn’t resist adding on to the story. How gorgeous is the Bellocq Tea Atelier collection of teas and tea accessories? Hand-crafted tea blends curated from fresh, full leaf organic teas.  And their accessories are absolutely lovely enough to stand on their own, don’t you think?

I have a small collection of teapots going (did I mention I’m a tea fanatic?) and am always looking for unexpected teapots to covet and add to my list. There’s something to love about an object that implies relaxation. So take a look at these antique English teapots -  top one is made from agate and the below is wedgewood caneware. I’m partial to the wedgewood, but they are both so unique that I couldn’t resist. Do you have a favorite? Maybe I actually love them both equally….

treasures

This week’s treasure is this 19th C tables de jeux, or antique game table. Created specifically for the famed Albemarle Club of London, it’s said that that the clubs more prominent members – Oscar Wilde specifically, put this table to use. The Abermarle Club catered to both men and women and was known as the bohemian haunt in comparison to other  prestigious spots, which catered to only the affluent. Oh, if this table could talk…

It’s made from Cuban mahogany and gorgeous satinwood inlays, but what makes it most fascinating is the locking key mechanism.  A special set of custom brass keys at the center of the table opens each drawer, along with  one large master key that opens all six. Revealing the pieces to chess, dominos and cribbage to backgammon and horse racing. Each station also has a cocktail glass support and a compartment to store each station’s brass key. Fancy a game, anyone?

brokenfab

I’m clearly still in fall denial since:

A) a heat wave has finally hit LA

B) the popping summer brights and playful geometric shapes of Brokenfab’s beaded jewelry are running through my mind.

Swiss designer Fabienne Morel is influenced by London street culture & African tribal design. Her line certainly has that mix of  many ages: a little 30′s,60′s and 80′s all mixed with a touch of au currant color combos. Yes – trendy, yes – high energy and yes – upbeat : the perfect compliment to the summer heat which has finally (!!) taken hold.

historic lighting of london

Inspired by today’s etsy post are these fantastic chandeliers and hanging light bulb from Historic Lighting in London. Founded in 2008 , they supply both new and antiquated items, side by side. Everything is made in the UK or Europe with a focus on integrity of product – well built lamps that last a lifetime and prevent unnecessary waste. Yes, please! Hmm, these somehow remind me of this little treasure I posted about a while back….
