our Big Sur…part 1

So you may have read on either Jeana or Heather’s blogs about our lovely ladies trip to Big Sur. We had a marvelous weekend and the good times are still resonating…

Our arrival brought sunshine and fog in the way that only Big Sur can bring. We were told to look for the ‘single pine tree and a row of mailboxes’ which would lead us up to our place. Little did we know it would also lead us up a 2 mile dirt road that dropped dramatically down to the ocean. The road, although beautiful, made us feel like city girls in the country.

We arrived at our house and were thrilled by what we saw and heard – nature in all forms, and pure, unbroken silence.

The house overlooked an extraordinary cliff, with a meditation deck and a garden filled with lavender. The fog and the sunshine had a bit of a battle going on…

Being a Northern California girl, I had packed for rainy mornings and cool nights. LA and the summer heat seemed very far away from us, thankfully.
In my road weary state, I enjoyed a crisp glass of wine which helped ease my frustration with my novice camera skills. Sweet birthday girl Joanna had the right idea – she hopped straight to the sunlit daybed and let us bring her wine and treats, as any birthday girl should.Miss Heather had better luck with her camera than I. She and Jeana bring the world some beautiful simplicity from behind the lens. Do you remember what if feels like to be a kid again? I suggest you find a way to get to that state of mind, if only for a moment. It feels good.Melissa not only creates the kind of clothing you really want to wear, but she also makes the best s’mores you can imagine. She has no fear about teaching you how to attack the task with proper diligence and will demonstrate this, preferably with a glass of wine in hand. Our day 2 brought us to Deetjen’s, for what was literally the coziest morning you can imagine. More on that…tomorrow.

weekend

Ohh I’m longing for a little trip outside of the city on this Holiday weekend – nature please! Expansive, wide open spaces please! This picture inspires me to take it all outdoors. Don’t you love the idea of waking up outside in the fresh morning air, in your own comfy bed? I’ll be handling some client projects this weekend – so I’ll have to settle for little bits of downtime snatched whenever possible. What about you – have any end of Summer plans for the long weekend?
